Dr. Scofield is completing his 5th year as an
Assistant Professor in the department of Human
Development and Family Studies at the University of
Alabama. He started at
UA in 2003 after receiving a PhD in Experimental
Psychology from the University of Arkansas. Dr. Scofield's
lab (Bama Cognitive Development) studies cognitive
development, focusing on children's language development. The lab's
main line of research examines the conditions in which children learn,
or fail to learn, new words. This research has varied the source of
the words (e.g., television, video, parent, etc.), the
presence/absence of a speaker, the absence/presence of social cues, the
intentions of a speaker, the accuracy of a speaker, the presence of
other words, and the availability of different senses. |
